Sometimes a grid needs a change the criteria cannot express. A penalty, a late entry, or a stewards decision are all reasons to move one rider by hand.

Three overrides move a rider on the grid. A fourth, the qualifying override, changes which qualifying lap one rider uses in one race. All of them survive a regeneration, which is the whole point of them.

Pin

pinA manual override that holds a rider at one grid position. Race Control keeps a pin when it regenerates the grid. holds a rider at one grid position. Use it when something outside the timing data decides a position.

Back of wave

back of waveA manual override that moves a rider to the last position in their wave. Race Control keeps it when it regenerates the grid. moves a rider to the last position in their waveA group of classes that starts together, with a gap before the next group starts.. This is the common penalty for a qualifying infringement.

Row penalty

row penaltyA manual override that moves a rider back a set number of rows. Race Control keeps it when it regenerates the grid. moves a rider back a set number of rows. Use it when your penalty counts rows, not positions.

Qualifying overrides

A rider can qualify two motorcycles. In each race, Race Control uses the laps of the motorcycle that the rider registered for that race. When that motorcycle did not qualify, the rider is Missing in that race. Race Control never moves a lap from one motorcycle to another by itself.

A qualifying overrideA staff decision that sets the qualifying evidence for one rider in one race: selected qualifying runs, a typed time, or Missing. Race Control keeps it when it regenerates the grid. changes the qualifying evidence for one rider in one race. The rider's other races do not change. Under the grid, select Add Qualifying Override, choose the rider, and choose one of three options:

  • Use Runs uses the laps from the qualifying runs that you select. The list shows the lap of the rider in each run, on any motorcycle. It also marks the runs of the registered motorcycle.
  • Enter Time uses a time that you type as m:ss.mmm.
  • Missing uses no qualifying evidence in this race.

A typed time or Missing has priority over the qualifying time on the entry. Use Runs only selects imported laps, so the qualifying time on the entry has priority over those laps.

A qualifying override also survives the next registration update from MotorsportReg.

They survive regeneration

An override is a record attached to the race, not an edit to one generated grid. When you regenerate, Race Control applies your overrides again.

This matters because the ordinary reason to regenerate is new data, and new data must not quietly undo a stewards decision.

Note

An override changes a position and never changes eligibility. It cannot put a rider in a race they have no entry for. When a rider is missing from a grid entirely, the fix is an entry, not an override.

What an override looks like afterwards

After you generate the grid, Position Details shows who set the override and why. The public grid shows the starting order without that reason.

The grid review counts an override as a change even when no rider moves. When you replace or remove one, that is a real update. It appears under Updates on the Grids leaf like any other.
